DANGEROUS PONIES (click photo to listen)It’s really difficult to write about a band that you love in a succinct way. I would describe Dangerous Ponies as having elements of a Dr. Dog-esque millenium-retro vibe, combined with punk and powerpop roots; their enigmatic sound is an invariable crowd-pleaser.Similarly, the band’s live show is unparalleled in the Philly scene. Complete with costumes, props, and more pizazz than is fathomable I can honestly say I’ve had more fun at Dangerous Ponies shows than any other band in Philly. I fell in love with them back in the “Dr. Ponie Medicine Ponie” days, and the band has since released an epic full length January of last year. The newest album stays true to their mosh-or-dance basement sound, while still showing a stark maturation in both song construction and production (“Get Out of My Bed” is almost a symphonic-punk song? Does that category exist? It does now.) I recommend checking out both albums and definitely catching them when they play live. You won’t regret it, unless you hate dancing, endorphins and sparkly-things and people in which case — stay far away.Dr. Ponie Medicine Ponie (http://dangerousponies.bandcamp.com/album/dr-ponie-medicine-ponie - favorite track - Honey TrapDangerous Ponies (self-titled) (http://dangerousponies.bandcamp.com/album/dangerous-ponies) - favorite track - Get Out of My Bed
